One more.......help wording this?

Tool use has always fascinated anthropologists.They have conducted extensive research on the evolution of tool use throughout the history of man. Constructing and using tools demonstrated that humans....(??...i want to say they had the mental capacity? intelligence?). Thus, when observations showed that chimpanzees were capable of constructing tools, this displayed yet another remarkable similarity between humans and chimpanzees.
